From September 2025, Haverhill Football Academy (HFA) will be in partnership with Juniper Sports to become an independent post-16 education provider. This means that all academic and football provision will be delivered entirely on-site at The New Croft in Haverhill.
This exciting transition represents a bold commitment to our vision: providing an education-first, student-centred experience that combines academic success with elite football development.
At HFA, we are focused on more than just football. Our students will study the NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity (Sports Coaching) – a nationally recognised, two-year qualification designed to equip learners with the skills, knowledge and confidence for careers in sport or further study at university.
With up to 168 UCAS points available (equivalent to three A-levels), this course offers a clear pathway into higher education, apprenticeships, or employment. Best of all, it’s delivered through continuous assessment and practical learning, with no final exams – creating a more inclusive, supportive, and flexible academic environment.
For those still working towards English or Maths at GCSE level, we provide structured timetables and dedicated tutor support to help every student reach their goals.
We recommend that applicants have five GCSE's, including either English or Maths. However, we assess each application on an individual basis, taking into account a student’s overall potential, commitment, and suitability for the course. At HFA, we are committed to providing opportunities for motivated learners and supporting them to achieve their goals both in the classroom and on the pitch.
We’re proud to be working in partnership with Juniper Sports, a nationally respected, Ofsted-accredited education provider with over 40 years of experience delivering outstanding post-16 education. Juniper will serve as HFA’s education provider, overseeing quality assurance and helping us deliver an exceptional learning experience to every student.
“Juniper Sports are thrilled to be working in collaboration with HFA to bring this new and exciting football programme to Haverhill,” said Cathy Gunson, Performance Manager at Juniper Sports.
“We pride ourselves on providing life-changing opportunities to our students by offering various progressions into the sports industry and further education. We look forward to working with such an experienced and professional team of staff at HFA and are certain that this new partnership will be a huge success.”
While education is our core focus, we are equally committed to helping students develop on the pitch. Each learner receives two hours of professional football coaching every day, built into the academic timetable.
Matchdays take place every Wednesday, with no classroom time missed – ensuring students can enjoy competitive fixtures while staying on track academically.
Rhys Shulver, Lead Tutor at HFA, said: “We’re incredibly excited about this next chapter for the Haverhill Football Academy. Partnering with Juniper Sports allows us to provide a truly integrated and high-quality education and football experience. Our aim is to create an environment where students can thrive both academically and athletically, and this new model gives us the tools and support to do just that. It’s a fantastic opportunity for young people in the area who are passionate about sport and want to build a strong foundation for their future.”
