Haverhill local Darts star Ruby Grey has enjoyed a fantastic run of form over the past month, producing a string of impressive results that have put her on the verge of one of the biggest milestones in her career, the World Championships in Lakeside.
Ruby’s impressive run began in Belgium, where she finished runner-up in both the Bruges Open and Belfry Open (Youth Girls). She then continued her fine form on home soil, securing runner-up positions in both the British Open Women’s competition and the British Open Girls Youth competition.Â
Ruby’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. She recently travelled to Selsey to take part in the English Open, where unfortunately, she didn’t qualify for any finals in this competition and missed out on valuable ranking points. However, this setback only showcased her resilience and determination. The very next week, during her trip to Latvia, she bounced back brilliantly, being crowned champion of the Women’s Latvia Open, as well as winner of both the Girls’ Youth Latvia Open and the Riga Girls Youth Open.
Ruby’s consistency has now propelled her to 2nd in the World Girls Youth Darts rankings, as well as 2nd in the table race for the World Championships at Lakeside. The top two players in this race will automatically qualify for Lakeside, meaning Ruby is now on the brink of securing a dream spot at one of the sport’s biggest events.Â
This week, Ruby travels to Hungary for four more world competitions, where she’ll look to continue her fantastic form and strengthen her position in the rankings.Â
Peter Betts, CEO of The New Croft, reflected on Ruby’s recent achievements and the Foundation’s ongoing support: “This month has been one of the most important in Ruby’s season so far. I’m really pleased that The New Croft Foundation, The New Croft, and our staff have been able to play such a pivotal role in providing opportunities for Ruby to achieve her ambitions.Â
Ruby still has some work to do to finish in the qualifying positions for the World Championships, but the support she’s received through our partnership has made a huge difference and put her in a very strong position heading into the final stretch.Â
The team and I have really enjoyed being part of the experiences in Belgium and Latvia this month, and we can’t wait to continue supporting Ruby as she works towards her goals. For our local community, we truly have an individual with the potential to flourish consistently on the world stage and it’s so important that we all get behind that.Â
Ruby’s journey shows the incredible difference that opportunities and support can make. We hope more local businesses will step forward to give young people the chance to develop their talents and thrive, just as Ruby has. Â
